Amanda Lampert withstood a final challenge from Bonnie Plowman to win the $750-added Texas Open Ladies’ Tournament Labor Day weekend. The event, held simultaneously with a men’s event, drew 28 entrants to G-Cue Billiards in Round Rock, TX.

Among the winners’ side final four, Plowman and Lampert had defeated Michelle Abernathy and Heather Lloyd 7-4 and 7-2, respectively, to square off for the first time in the hot seat match. Lampert sent Plowman to the semifinals with a 7-3 win and awaited her return.

On the one-loss side, Melinda Bailey and Kyu Yi, who was trying to fight her way back to the finals after falling to Plowman in the third round, emerged from the final 12 to meet Abernathy and Lloyd. Abernathy dropped Bailey into fifth place 7-3, as Lloyd ended Yi’s quest for a second straight title in this event with a 7-4 victory.

Lloyd then advanced to the semifinals with a 7-2 win over Abernathy but dropped into third place with a double-hill loss to Plowman. Plowman turned to the finals, needing to take two to win it.

She got one of them, defeating Lampert 7-4 in the opening set. Lampert then roared back in the second set, allowing Plowman to take only two racks in a 7-2 victory that earned her first place.
