Deuel Cashes in Million Dollar Billiards Shootout
Million Dollar 9-Ball Shootout / Valley Forge, PA
Corey “Cash Money” Deuel took down first place at the inaugural Million Dollar 9-Ball Shootout in Valley Forge, PA, held the week of August 7-10. Hosted by the Valley Forge Convention Center, this event was the brainchild of Allen Hopkins and featured 12 international players vying for the grand prize of $20,000.
Deuel began Sunday by facing off against Francisco “Django” Bustamante. Though the previous days had featured matches consisting of 25 games, the final day was changed to a race to 13 for both the semifinal and final matches. Still employing his famous “soft break,” Deuel won easily 13-6, eliminating Bustamante in the third-place spot.

In the other semifinal match, 2007 InsidePOOL Player of the Year Shane Van Boening matched up with another feared Filipino, Dennis Orcollo. Orcollo had led the first part of the event as the games leader with a total of 93 wins out of 150 games played, while Van Boening was the lowest scorer in the final four, with 83. Throughout the entire set, Van Boening excelled at his break, only coming up empty once. He had little trouble sweeping through the set with a 13-7 victory.
In the all-American final match between Deuel and Van Boening, “The South Dakota Kid” took an early 3-2 lead, but Deuel won the next three racks in a row to make it 5-3 in his favor. Of the next twelve racks, he only allowed Van Boening four before crossing the finish line to win the finals 13-7.
