In the early hours of a Monday morning, Sueyen Rhee finally concluded the ladies’ division of the Tiger Pool Tour stop the weekend of July 19-21. She came from the one-loss side to defeat Ming Ng in a final match that started shortly after 2 a.m. and finished just after 4 a.m. The $500-added, WPBA qualifier event drew 24 women to Blue Fox Billiards in Winchester, VA.
Much earlier in the day, Ng and Buffy Jolie advanced to the hot seat match, following victories over Karen Webb and Kate Cowan, respectively. Early Sunday evening, Ng sent Jolie to the semifinal match with a 7-5 victory and began her six-hour wait for the finals.
On the one-loss side, Rhee and Mirjuana Grujiacic were working their way toward the quarterfinal match. They dropped Cheryl Squire and Sherry Pouncey into a tie for seventh, and then, facing Cowan and Webb, dropped them into fifth place. Then the two battled to double-hill before Rhee advanced to the semifinals against Jolie. Rhee moved into the finals against Ng on the heels of a commanding 7-0 victory.
At 2 a.m., there was some consideration given to the idea of returning at noon for the final match, but Ng expressed a desire to get it done and opened the match with three straight wins. They were her last. Capitalizing on a few missed opportunities and bad rolls for Ng, Rhee took the next nine racks to capture the first-place prize and her first event win of the year.
