Tri-State Tour / New York, NY
by Skip Maloney
Rafael DeBreo went undefeated at the Tri-State Tour stop in Manhattan on Saturday, June 26. He defeated George Osipovitch in a single-set final, concluding the $1,000-added, C/D handicapped event that drew 19 players to Amsterdam Billiards and Bar.
DeBreo and Osipovitch were among the final four on the winners’-side bracket. Debreo defeated Dmitry Rozenfeld 6-3 to move into the hot seat match, while Osipovitch headed west on the heels of a shut-out defeat versus Peter Yiu. Debreo turned the tables on Yiu in the hot seat match, allowing him only a single rack before sending him to the semifinals.
On the one-loss side, Rajeesh Vanala was working his way to a quarterfinal match against Osipovitch, giving up only two racks each to Alfred Hargette and Naomi Fingerhut to start the journey. Vanala gave up only one additional rack to Rozenfeld, over from the winners’ side, before facing Osipovitch in the quarterfinals and from there dropping into fourth place. Osipovitch went on to defeat Peter Yiu 6-4 in the semifinal match.
In the true double-elimination finals, Debreo needed only the opening set. He battled to a 6-4 win over Osipovitch to capture the first-place prize.
